No more appointments at the consulate? Here's how to arrange your NIE number worry-free and digitally from now on

Do you dream of owning your own home under the Spanish sun, want to work in Spain or start a business there? Then you know that the NIE number (Número de Identidad de Extranjero) is the first indispensable step.

An NIE number is a tax identification number for non-residents in Spain. You can compare this number to a national registry number( Belgium) or citizen service number (Netherlands) and you will need it in your day-to-day life in Spain.

But where previously you could still go to the Spanish consulate, the working method there changed dramatically. Since the consulate has all but stopped direct applications for non-residents, many Belgians and Dutch face a bureaucratic challenge. This is why Confianz is launching a fully unburdened digital NIE service.

Why a new approach is needed

Going to the consulate used to be the standard route, but limited availability and discontinuation of simple applications now cause long waiting times and uncertainty. To prevent your Spanish plans from being delayed, we have developed a process that no longer requires you to leave your doorstep. No physical appointments in Brussels or Amsterdam, and no flying to Spain just for an administrative document.

How does Confianz's digital NIE service work?

We have fully digitised the application process. Through a notarised power of attorney, we arrange the application from A to Z for you in Spain. The process consists of three simple steps:

  1. Online Data & Documents: You fill in our online application form and upload a scan of your ID card or passport.
  2. Digital Signature: You sign the notarised power of attorney completely digitally. This is legally valid and saves you a physical visit to the notary. The power of attorney is drawn up in three languages (Dutch, Spanish and English).
  3. Application & Delivery: Once the power of attorney is received, our experts will submit the application to the Spanish authorities. After approval, you will receive the official NIE document directly in your mailbox.

The benefits at a glance

  • 100% Digital: From identification to signature, everything is done from your own bank.
  • No travel time: Forget the queues at the consulate or Spanish police.
  • Expert guidance: We know Spanish bureaucracy and make sure your file is submitted correctly in one go.
  • Speed: The average turnaround time is about four weeks.

Transparent costs and a smart saving tip

At Confianz, we like clarity. You pay a flat rate of €300 per person for the service, excluding the one-off notary fee for the power of attorney (approximately €450). We charge an additional fee of €10 per person when applying for multiple NIE numbers. This is the application fee we have to pay to the police.

Saving tip: Are you buying together with your partner or a family member? One power of attorney can be used for several people at the same time. This significantly reduces the cost per person!
